Why avoid seed oils?
Seed oils, such as canola and soybean oil, are often marketed as "healthy," but they have recently been linked to significant health concerns. These oils are highly refined, undergoing extensive industrial processing that often involves the use of chemicals like hexane to extract the oil. They are also high in omega-6 fatty acids, which can contribute to inflammation and oxidative stress, especially when heated for frying.
In contrast, we use traditional fats like beef tallow and extra virgin olive oil, which are minimally processed, more stable under heat, and packed with nutrients—offering a healthier and more natural choice. Plus, let's be honest—nothing beats the rich, savoury flavour of real, traditional fats.
What is beef tallow?
Beef tallow is a time-honoured cooking fat made by rendering 100% grass-fed, organic beef fat. This process removes water and impurities, leaving behind a smooth, shelf-stable fat with a rich, savoury flavour. Tallow is highly valued for its heat resistance, thanks to its high smoke point, making it ideal for frying and high-heat cooking without breaking down.
Beyond its cooking properties, tallow enhances the flavour of foods, adding a deep, savoury richness that other oils simply can't match. Once widely used in both home kitchens and commercial frying, tallow fell out of favour in the 1990s as seed oils gained popularity. Today, it’s making a strong comeback as a natural, nutrient-dense alternative to highly refined industrial oils.
Frying in Extra Virgin Olive Oil?
Frying in EVOO offers a healthier, flavourful alternative to seed oils. Its high stability under heat minimises harmful oxidation, while it's natural antioxidants and monounsaturated fats promote heart health. EVOO adds a light, fresh flavour to foods and creates a crisp, golden texture without excessive oil absorption. Plus, as an unrefined, natural oil, it retains its nutrients, making it a superior choice for frying.
How long do your chips last?
Our chips have a 3-month shelf life, thanks to our use of nitrogen flushing during packaging. This natural process helps preserve freshness without the need for artificial preservatives.
Where are your chips made?
